What Affects Custom Packaging MOQ, Cost and Lead Time?

A custom packaging quotation is based on the complete specification, not the product name alone. Two boxes of the same style can involve different materials, tooling, print coverage, finishing, assembly and freight requirements.

Yiwen order information

  • Minimum order quantity: 500 pieces.
  • Sample lead time: 7 days after design requirements are confirmed.
  • Production lead time: 21 days after sample and artwork approval.
  • Sizes and materials: customized for the project.

Shipping and destination delivery time are quoted separately. The production period does not include time spent revising and approving the design before the order is ready.

Structure and product fit

A rigid gift box, a folding carton and a corrugated mailer use different structures and production steps. Inserts, reinforcement, closures and the way the package will be assembled can also affect the quote.

Start with the product dimensions, weight and use. A right-sized structure can reduce unnecessary material and packed volume while maintaining the required protection.

Materials, printing and finishes

Paper or board construction, surface appearance, print coverage and color references all need to be specified. Foil, coating, embossing, lamination and other finishes add process requirements. Discuss which details matter most to your brand so material and finish choices support the intended result.

There is no fixed material or size specification across Yiwen products. If you have not selected a material, describe the product and how the package will be used so the specification can be reviewed.

Quantity and repeated orders

The MOQ is 500 pieces, but the unit price still depends on the design and order quantity. A larger order spreads some setup work across more units; it does not make two different specifications directly comparable. Ask quotations to use the same dimensions, materials, printing, finish and packing requirements.

Sampling and approval

Sampling is the stage for checking fit, structure, closure and artwork. Keep revision notes together and confirm one approved specification. Changes after approval may require a new sample or production review, so communicate them before manufacturing starts.

Freight and packed volume

Confirm whether the packaging is supplied formed or flat, how units are packed into cartons and where the order will be delivered. Factory price and delivered cost answer different questions. Compare quotations with consistent packing and shipping assumptions.

A practical quote checklist

Send the packaging type, dimensions, quantity, intended use, material preference, artwork, finish reference and destination. Review our artwork checklist, then request a custom packaging quote.
