Yiwen prints and finishes custom packaging in Huizhou, China. Boxes and bags are printed by offset printing, then finished with the effects your design needs: hot foil stamping, embossing, debossing, UV coating or lamination. We plan the printing, finishing, die-cutting and assembly for each order together, and you check every effect on the sample before production.
Offset printing
Offset printing transfers ink from a printing plate to a rubber blanket and then onto the sheet. It gives sharp text and even color on paperboard, coated paper and the wrapping paper used on rigid boxes. Most packaging artwork prints in CMYK. If a brand color has to match closely, send the color reference, for example a Pantone number, and we will confirm how it will be printed and check it on the sample.
Hot foil stamping
A heated die presses metallic or colored foil onto the surface. Foil is often used for logos, product names and borders. Gold and silver are the most common choices. Very fine lines and small text need enough width to transfer cleanly, so supply foil areas in vector format on a separate layer.
Embossing and debossing
Embossing raises part of the design above the surface, and debossing presses it below. Both use a matched die and work well on logos, lettering and simple patterns. The paper or board thickness limits how deep the effect can go, so we confirm the depth on the sample. Ask us if you want to combine embossing with foil.
UV coating
UV coating is a clear layer cured with ultraviolet light. Applied over the whole surface, it adds gloss and protects the print. Applied to selected areas, known as spot UV, it makes a logo or image shine against a matte background.
Lamination
Lamination bonds a thin film to the printed sheet. Gloss film makes colors look brighter, and matte film gives a softer, low-glare surface. Lamination also protects the print from scuffs and moisture, which helps on boxes that are handled often. Laminated paper is harder to recycle than uncoated paper, so tell us if recyclability matters in your market.
Which finishes suit which packaging
Rigid gift boxes such as lid and base boxes, magnetic book boxes and drawer boxes are covered with printed wrapping paper. That paper is printed and finished before it is wrapped around the board. Folding cartons such as tuck end boxes and auto bottom boxes are printed and finished on the paperboard itself. Mailer boxes, paper bags and kraft bags can also carry these effects, depending on the material. Brown kraft changes how colors look, so we review kraft artwork before sampling.
Preparing artwork for printing and finishing
Place your artwork on our dieline in vector format, convert text to outlines and use images at print resolution. Put each finish on its own named layer (foil, emboss, deboss, spot UV) so the position of every effect is clear. The artwork and dieline checklist covers bleed, safe areas and panel orientation.
Checking the result
Every order starts with a sample. Sampling takes 7 days after the specification is confirmed. Check color, foil position, emboss or deboss depth and the coating on the sample, then approve it for production. Production takes 21 days after sample and artwork approval, and the minimum order is 500 pieces. Our quality control page explains how print and finishing are checked during production.
